Project Summary

Qualiquant Services Limited conducted a Nutrition Formative Assessment to understand the nutrition landscape for Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) aged 9–25 in five Nigerian states—Ekiti, Delta, Ondo, Oyo, and Kaduna. The study aimed to identify knowledge gaps, attitudes, and behaviors surrounding nutrition, particularly focusing on antenatal nutrition, iron-folic acid supplementation, and multiple micronutrient supplementation (MMS).

Using a qualitative approach, the research involved a comprehensive desk review, 45 Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with stakeholders such as government representatives, community leaders, and NGOs, and 30 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with AGYW, parents, caregivers, and teachers. Data collection adhered to strict ethical guidelines, and advanced qualitative analysis tools NVivo was employed to extract key insights.

Findings from this study provided actionable recommendations to enhance nutrition programming for AGYW in Nigeria, informing future policy and intervention strategies.
